The short answer
If you want the best chance of a tiger and the clearest mountains, come between the middle of October and the end of February. If you want the forest at its most beautiful and least crowded, come in the monsoon and accept that some zones will be shut. Everything else is a variation on those two.
October to February
The season everyone means when they say 'the season'. Mornings are cold enough to need a proper jacket at 6:30 in the jeep, the air is clean, and on a good day you can see the snow line from the lawn. Sightings are consistent. It is also when the property is fullest, so long weekends and the Christmas window need booking well ahead — six to eight weeks is not excessive for a New Year villa.
March to June
Underrated, and getting less so. It is hot by May and the forest is dry, which is exactly why it works: the water sources shrink and everything comes to them. Afternoon safaris in particular become very good. Come back at four covered in dust, get into a jacuzzi, and understand why the Premium Cottages exist.
July to September
The monsoon. Bijrani and the core zones close, but Jhirna and Dhela stay open and the forest turns a green that photographs cannot really carry. This is the quietest and cheapest time to be here, and for a certain kind of guest it is the best — the one who came for the place rather than the checklist. Rain comes in bursts rather than all day. Roads are fine; the highway is good now.
A note on permits
Whenever you come, the permit is the constraint rather than the room. They are released on a fixed calendar and the popular zones go fast. Ten to fifteen days ahead is our standard advice, and more for weekends, Diwali and the New Year window. Tell us your dates when you book the room, not when you arrive.
